The following events are designed for horse owners and professionals, body workers and equine enthusiasts who would like to learn how to do some effective bodywork with their horse. The courses will include building blocks of equine health and energetic relationship with the horse. The work relies on the horse’s innate ability to self-correct and can have profoundly sustainable results. Emphasis in class will be on developing feel and timing in contact. Classes are open to anyone, no pre-requisites.
Brief Biography: Susan Smith has had a lifelong love of horses and began her interest in bodywork while endurance riding. The need to keep horses and herself fit led her to study bodywork for both equines and humans. Susan's certifications include: Registered Instructor & Advanced Practitioner Ortho-Bionomy® & Equine Ortho-Bionomy®, Founder of Equine Body Balance™ and Horses at Liberty Foundation Training™, certified Liberty Foundations™ instructor, Practitioner of Equine Positional Release (EPR), Member ABMP, Society of Ortho-Bionomy® International, Independent Liberty Trainers Network.

This two-day Mounted Body Balance(TM) workshop focuses on self-care exercises for people, hands-on bodywork for horses, and walking exercises for horse and rider. With this unique approach to working with strengths, we can increase function and comfort in both horse and rider, and provide valuable information to each other. Stiffness in you or the horse? Neck or shoulder pain? Imbalance in the saddle? Trouble mounting? Join us for a day of Mounted Body Balance™ and self-correction, discovery and change. Equine Body Balance™ = Equine Ortho-Bionomy®. This gentle but effective non-force approach uses elements of healing that are in concert with the body's natural tendencies. 16 Ortho-Bionomy® CEs earned with class completion. Experience the deepening of the horse/rider connection through bodywork in this two-day workshop. While many people come to this work to try to solve their body and riding challenges, they learn that the horse can help support their bodies and the rider can support the horse's needs better. Mounted Body Balance is the mounted version of Equine Body Balance, using Ortho-Bionomy for people in addition to equine work. The work is simple and non-invasive, and can be learned by any interested horse owner or professional. Learn assessment through observation, further your palpation skills, encourage movement from within to without. Learn to prioritize when bodywork, follow-up and other intervention is needed on an individual basis. This material is not a substitute for veterinary care, but a complement to it. Class Content: Assessment: Observing the horse, its gait, movement patterns: limb-to-spine. Working with common areas of complaint in both horse and human: back, hips, shoulders, neck, legs Approaching the horse: Greeting, coming into connection. Learn tissue differences: Sinewy, squishy, tissue with bounce-back, hard. Techniques: Range of motion, lifting legs in position of comfort, addressing trigger points.
