Ortho-Bionomy® Portland Area Training
The Society of Ortho-Bionomy International® (SOBI) was founded in 1984 and oversees the training of all its practitioners and instructors. Our website posts approved training information for classes in the Portland, Oregon area. Most of these classes do not have pre-requisites or only require one previous Ortho-Bionomy Phase 4 class. For more information on Ortho-Bionomy® see Ortho-Bionomy FAQs or SOBI website at www.ortho-bionomy.org
3-hour Study Group, held before the weekend Posture and Post-Techniques class. This Study Group provides a "prequel" to our Posture and Post class, strengthening our understanding of Phase 4 spine techniques. Questions welcome!

Posture and Post-Techniques
In Ortho-Bionomy we work with posture to engage a more comfortable and functional way of being in our bodies. Posture expresses our identity, our energies, nervous systems, and is influenced by the work and play we engage in. It reflects our past and present and is dynamic and individual, with its own set of rhythms that can be employed with post-technique movements.
Post-techniques refer to techniques we use during or after an Ortho-Bionomy session, to help re-educate the structural integrity of the spine, pelvis and ribcage. By finding the natural rhythms in the body we also support that re-education process. In Ortho-Bionomy we don’t seek visual symmetry or what we think the body should do, but rather, go with the direction of ease that the body presents, to find a more functional posture that creates proprioception, inner connection and integration.

Description: Whether human or accident caused, a horse doesn't need to remain triggered by trauma forever. We may never know the entire story of why a horse is holding trauma in his/her body, but we can work with the symptoms that present themselves through careful observation, palpation and calming techniques. We will begin with the way the horse presents, what she is capable of, to begin the process of unraveling the mystery of what tension the body is holding. We will work with the self-corrective response in the horse to restore natural rhythms, change respiration, empower movement, diminish flight/fright reflex and much more.We will work with specific trauma responses as they arise.

Postural Re-education and Scoliosis
Instructors: Luann Overmeyer & Paula Forehand June 19-20, 2020 (Fri-Sat) Moving Mountain Institute, Portland, Oregon (Phase 4 is a Pre-requisite for this class) Chapman’s Neuro-lymphatic Reflexes Instructor: Luann Overmeyer June 21-22, 2020 (Sun-Mon) Moving Mountain Institute, Portland, Oregon (No Pre-requesite) |
Postural Re-education and Scoliosis (June 19-20)
Posture can be looked upon as the shape of experience. Within posture we can observe heredity, early-learned patterns, present capacity, and the will to manifest aspirations. Bringing awareness to the body assists clients to maintain connection with the body’s sensations, preferences and natural responsiveness. Increasing the awareness of postural patterns, engages and empowers the client toward balanced postural embodiment. This Posture class focuses on how to assess, release, and re-educate inefficient postural patterns with your clients and assist them through simple movements and positioning to restore alignment and flexibility. Techniques to work with spinal curvatures and scoliosis will also be presented and practiced.
Chapman’s Neuro-lymphatic Reflexes (June 21-22)
In the early 1900’s Osteopath Frank Chapman identified nerve reflexes that could be used to assess and treat lymphatic blockage and inflammation of tissue. After his death, his work was compiled, published, and further interpreted by Dr. Charles Owens. Dr. Owens presented the pelvic thyroid syndrome, recognizing the importance of the imbalance of the sacra-iliac joint “as probably the most potent predisposing factor in bodily ills.” This class offers an increased perspective into the relationship of structure to lymph, viscera, nervous system, and soft tissue. It emphasizes the benefits of using these neuro-lymphatic reflexes for lymphatic drainage and organ balance as well as their influence on the endocrine system and emotional balance.

Releases for the Upper Extremities “Structure Governs Function” Class
'Structure Governs Function' is an Osteopathic principle that works with the understanding that when the musculo-skeletal system is balanced properly the functioning (blood, nerve, emotions, meridian) of the body will flow more efficiently. This osteopathic principle has allowed me to help more of my clients out of pain than any other technique I have studied. The Releases for the UPPER EXTREMITIES ‘Structure Governs Function’ CLASS uses Osteopathic-based gentle body positions and movements to stimulate self-correcting reflexes within the muscles and nerves. These responses can move the client out of pain and discomfort within 10-30 seconds. This method is very specific and structure-oriented.
